About the course…

The Indiana course at Desert Springs is the first and only desert course in Europe and has been built to the full USGA specifications and quality standards of the now famous desert courses of Arizona and California. The contrast between the beautifully prepared and manicured playing areas and the acrid yet vividly coloured desert captures the essence of why golf is different at Desert Springs.

As for the course itself, it presents unforgettable views and takes golf to a new level of excellence so far as design and construction is concerned. The fairways have been kept generous to ensure the less impressive golfer can enjoy his game while taking in the landscape and wonderful views that encompass the Indiana. However, when stretched to its limits the course has been constructed to test even the world’s best players. Designed by Peter McEvoy, Desert Springs was opened in 2000 and one of his main features are the many tee positions to make a more accommodating challenge depending on the golfers standard. Another feature is that every hole seems to have a hazard that is brought in to play such as the springs, the water-courses, dry river beds, rocks and make sure you watch out for those prickly cactus areas! You might even spot one of the numerous armadillos that roam the course. The bunkers are strategically placed to test the skills of even the most accomplished golfer particularly from the championship tees. The course is a good mixture of holes and is always kept in superb condition with the fairways being immaculate and the greens being some of the finest you will play. You must play this if you are in the area and you should let Med Golf book your tee time to avoid disappointment.

Eventually there will be two courses on this site where Clint Eastwood and Sergio Leone made “A Fistful of Dollars” and a host of other western films. It is not that Desert Springs is tough, but it fits in perfectly in this area of rugged sandstone rock.

On arrival you will find ample parking and a well-stocked pro shop. There are the usual practice areas and a clubhouse with all the required changing facilities. You can enjoy a drink and a meal after your round and take in the spectacular views. The course can be walked but many take advantage of the buggies particularly if the weather is kind.

Desert Springs gives you the impression of enjoying a lifestyle of quality, so why not play a leisurely game of golf here. It is well worth a visit and very enjoyable to play.
